11th Citi Forum and Keynote Speech “Overview of Banking in China”

Under the topic of “Initiate the New Era: Enterprise Transformation”, the opening ceremony of the 11th Citi Forum was held on 3 November in SYSBS. Mr. Andrew Au gave his keynote speech titled with “Overview of Banking in China”.

Andrew Au is Chief Executive Officer of Citi in the People’s Republic of China, and is responsible for the performance of all of Citi’s businesses in China. Mr. Au has held his current position since May 2008, and is based in Shanghai. Mr. Au was previously Regional Head of Commercial Banking, Citi Asia Pacific.

A brief introduction of formulation of the SYSBS’s mission was presented by Associate Dean Yu Xin at the first stage, which highlighted academic and practical education program of SYSBS. In his speech, he positioned Citi Forum as a high-quality academic communication platform and sincerely appreciated the support from Citibank. And then, Jun Song (President of Guangzhou Branch of Citibank) gave a retrospect of the cooperation between Citibank and SYSBS in the last ten years and the development of Citi Forum. He praised the topic of this year’s Forum and pointed out that net banks should meet the challenge and innovate boldly in the internet era.

Mr. Andrew Au presented his insight view of banking in China. Considering the deepen reform background of China there years, he analyze the situation of the market share of all kinds of banks in China market and the future direct of banking in the wave of market economic reform. In addition, his speech also includes some practical issue such as a faster pace of Yuan internationalization recently.

In the Q&A session, Mr. Andrew Au answered the question with concise and humorous words, which impressed all the audience presented. Apart from that, students have been enlightened by the wonderful speech and gained the insight of issues like innovation of banking and the effect of Yuan internationalization.

After the Q&A session, Honghui Dai (Party Secretary of SYSBS) presented souvenir to Mr. Andrew Au. She indicated the gratitude to Citibank’s energetic support for academic development of SYSBS and placed high hopes on the further cooperation with Citibank.

So far, the last session brought down the curtain of the 11th Citi Forum. As students in SYSBS, we should solid our academic foundation and have a more prospective view to face the challenge in the internet era.
