SYSBS Opening Ceremony for Academic Year 2011-2012 Held

Embracing the golden autumn, university campus is not only decorated by blossoms of osmanthus and chrysanthemum, but also livened up by young faces. On Sept. 10th, SYSBS held opening ceremony for academic year 2011-2012 in Liang Qiuju Hall on SouthNorth Campus. Prof. Li Zhongfei, Executive Dean & Head of SYSBS, Prof. Tan Jinsong, SYSBS CCP Secretary, Prof. Fu Zhengping, Associate Dean, Prof. Xu Yong, Prof. Wan Fan, Associate Dean Mr. Lan Yu, Associate Prof. Zhang Shujun, Msr. Dai Honghui, Deputy SYSBS CCP Secretary, Prof. Liu Yunguo and Mr. Jin Xiangpeng, Assistant to Deans as well as department directors and faculty representatives were presented at the ceremony. The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Dai Honghui, Deputy SYSBS CCP Secretary.

Prof. Lu Yadong, International Dean of SYSBS, made an address via video to welcome the new cohort of students. He pointed out that SYSBS was made prominent by its glorious past, fine academic accumulation and excellent achievements. Prof. Lu also expressed his hope that students would seek knowledge as wells as truth, draw blueprint for personal success in accordance with requirements of the society, and at the same time put their lifelong efforts in self-cultivation. Prof. Li Zhongfei, Executive Dean & Head, delivered an the opening remarks. He told students that SYSBS had always being devoted to providing students with favorable academic environment, high-class faculty, professional administrative services and opportunities for practice. He urged students to think globally and develop an international perspective, embrace diversity with open mind and tolerance, and work diligently to realize dreams. Moreover he reminded students to be thankful and shoulder social responsibility. The speech ended with Prof. Li ‘s advice that students learn the art of time management in order to fully enjoy university life.

Following Prof. Li’s speech, Prof. Xin Yu talked on behalf of faculty. He encouraged students to make full use of fine academic environment, bravely fulfill their responsibility and develop a grateful mind and a kind heart. Ye Zhixing on behalf of senior students delivered his congratulations to freshmen and shared with them his experience on studying, working and living in SYSBS. Freshmen representatives Li Bin and Zhang Yu expressed their gratitude to all the teachers on the Teacher’s Day today. They promised to seize the day, study hard and prepare for making contribution to the society.

A total of 418 undergraduates, 585 postgraduates and Ph.D. candidates attended the ceremony. They listened respectively to the instruction from teachers and senior students, bore in mind school motto and determined to make a difference. After the opening ceremony, SYSBS held the orientation session to help freshmen adapt to new environment and answer their questions about study and living.
