International Competitiveness of Chinese Enterprises – 2015 SYSU Global Business Forum
On March 15, 2015 SYSU Global Business Forum (GBF), featuring the theme of “International Competitiveness of Chinese Enterprises”, was held at Swasey Hall of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Luminaries attending the forum were Prof. Yadong Luo (Distinguished Honorary Professor of SYSBS, Tenured Associate Professor of Strategy and International Business, U. of Miami, Emery M. Findley Distinguished Chair of Graduate Business Studies, and Elected Fellow of Academy of International Business), Prof. Ming-jer Chen (Former President and a Fellow of the Academy of Management, Fellow of the Strategic Management Society, and former chair of the Academy’s Business Policy and Strategy Division), Prof. Yunshi Mao (Professor of Business Administration, SYSBS) and Mr. Yanmin Gu (Vice President of International Business, Midea Group).
In the opening remarks, Prof. Zhongfei Li (Executive Dean of SYSBS) pointed out that the SYSU GBF was an international academic conference focusing on the transformation and international competitiveness of Chinese enterprises, providing a platform for talents in both political and business circle for communication and cooperation. Since the first session held in 2011, the SYSU GBF has become a think tank for numerous decision makers.

During the keynote speech session, Prof. Ming-jer Chen analyzed the competitive environment under the international background confronted by Chinese manufacturing industry. Prof. Yadong Luo, however, voiced optimism for the preponderance of integrating capacity and core competence owned by Chinese enterprises. Meanwhile, Prof. Yunshi Mao shared his views on the industrial upgrading of the traditional manufacturing industry in Pearl River Delta and Taiwan. Mr. Yanmin Gu, as the last presenter, offered his suggestions of the internationalization for Chinese enterprises, basing on the path of globalization of Midea Group.

The last but stimulating session of round table discussion was hosted by Prof. Shujun Zhang (Professor of Business Administration, SYSBS). The guests of honor focused on the topic of the innovation power of Chinese enterprises, and whether the success of Chinese enterprises could be popularized globally, which aroused the interests of a mass audience.
