The First Global Business Forum Held at SYSBS
On June 18th, the 2011 Global Business Forum (SYSBS) was held in the Swasey Hall of Sun Yat-sen University. Lu ruihua, the former Governor of Guangdong Province and Honorable Dean of SYSBS, Chen Chunsheng, the Vice President of SYSU, Liu Xiaojie, the Vice Secretary General of Guangdong Province, Zhu Zenan, the Deputy General of Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province, Yadong, Luo the International Dean of SYSBS all attended the opening ceremony. The Executive Dean of SYSBS, Li Zhongfei, presided over it.

Lu Ruihua pointed out in his speech that currently, global economy environment was full of complex fluctuation factors. Along with rapid development of economic globalization, we would need an effective and fair interest intermediation system to solve the problem that economic interest conflicts had come to surface, which was caused by financial crisis. In this day and age, it was of great significance to hold Global Business Forum (SYSBS) given that the situation of global business activities was quite complicated. According to him, the opinions of scholars were of great importance for policymakers. He considered that this forum would serve as a think-tank for policymakers.

Liu Xiaojie, the Vice Secretary General of Guangdong Province, gave a speech. According to him, Guangdong was faced with many crucial strategic opportunities as well as challenges in terms of promoting scientific development. Global Business Forum (SYSBS) was of great realistic significance in improving Guangdong’s internationalization image, accelerating transforming and transcending, contributing to the well-being of Guangdong citizens and providing intellectual support. At the same time, it played a positive role in raising awareness of the significance of global business and elevating SYSU’s ranking in the field of global business research.

Chen Chunsheng, the Vice President of SYSU, gave a welcome speech. On behalf of SYSU, he extended a warm welcome to all the guests attending this forum. He pointed out that, SYSU was a comprehensive university with a full range of disciplines, strong academic research strength and outstanding academic advantage. Having been successfully awarded AMBA Accreditation and EQUIS Accreditation, SYSBS had become a world-renowned business school. The aim of Global Business Forum (SYSBS) was to provide the scholars as well as businessmen a platform for high-level dialogue concerning Chinese economic and enterprises development. He hoped that Global Business Forum could head towards normalization. At the same time, he also hoped that this forum could contribute to sharing practical experience between scholars, accelerating transforming and transcending of Chinese enterprises and improving the international competiveness of Chinese enterprises.

In this forum, experts including Lecture Professor of Darden Business School, University of Virginia and the vice chairman of International Management Institute (IMI) Ming-Jer Chen, the Deputy General of Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province Zhu Zenan, the International Dean of SYSBS and the tenured Professor of Management at University of Miami Yadong Luo, the Lecture Professor of Management and in Wharton School Marshall W. Meyer, Professor Mao Yunshi of SYSBS, the CEO of COSCO Shipping Co.,Ltd Han Guomin and some other representatives from the field of politics, business and academy all delivered speeches on the topic of “Transforming and Transcending of Chinese Firms in an Epoch of Globalization”. The hall was full to its capacity. The exchange and sharing of ideas and management art made it a hilarious academic banquet for the audience.
