Hosted by SYSBS, the 2nd SYSU Global Business Forum (GBF) was held at Swasey Hall on June 15. An audience of more than 300 scholars, governmental representatives, and private sector professionals was in attendance.

The GBF is a branded activity organized and hosted by SYSBS once every other year, with the goal of  creating a brainstorm platform for scholars, executives, officials, and professionals to jointly address important issues pertaining to Chinese firms’ growth and competitiveness in an era of globalization. The first GBF was successfully held in Guangzhou in June 2011, with a theme emphasizing the transformation of Chinese firms’ and strategies for strengthening the position of China's firms in the arena of international competition.

“Since its establishment in 2011, the GBF has begun taking its place as a premier think tank for economic decision-makers,” commented Prof. Ruihua Lu, former Governor of Guangdong Province and Distinguished Dean of SYSBS, in the welcome remarks at the Opening Ceremony.

Roundtable Discussion

At the end of the forum, Prof. Yadong Luo, International Dean of SYSBS, concluded that to achieve innovation and transcendence, the sustainable development of the Chinese economy should be put on the path of HE. HE () is the Chinese character at the end of four words that begin with the letter “c”: composition (复合), collaboration (联合), combination (结合), and conformity (相合). The concepts represented by these four words come together in the traditional Chinese philosophy of HE, which emphasizes harmony and peace, and that is at the heart of open and productive discussion. Prof. Luo explained that the GBF is helping to elevate the Chinese economy through the concepts of HE.
