At the meeting
In his report, former SYSU Secretary, Li Yanbao, talked about the background, role, target, and significance of educational reform at pilot schools and shared with everyone his own thought on pilot project. He pointed out that pilot project was a wise choice for higher education institutions for the reason that firstly pilot schools could enjoy more freedom in management and more opportunities for development. Secondly, educational reform was inevitable as was required by educational development. Taking into consideration that any kinds of reform must obey the law of development of things, he advised that educational reform be made in accordance with the real situation of schools. Besides it was essential for pilot schools to obtain powerful support from university, motivate faculty members and take a long-time view. He also added that faculty members of pilot schools should share the agreed understanding of reform and take part in administrative management. The report of former Secretary Li Yanbao, delivered in plain language with concrete examples, helped audiences better grasp the importance of pilot project.
Academician Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU, drew a conclusion that the reform, in spite of its complexity, played a significant role in the development of SYSU and SYSBS. As one of the only two business schools among the fifteen selected pilots, SYSBS would become a pioneer in educational reform and set a good example to other business schools. He expressed that the university endeavored to support the educational reform at SYSBS and he believed that SYSBS had the courage and capacity to undertake this historical task.
As is reported, aimed at resolving deep-seated contradictions in the development of higher education and accelerating the cultivation of creativity and talent, the Ministry of Education selected fifteen schools from higher education institutions to establish “Education Experimental Zone”. Qualified by experts in Ministry of Education, SYSBS officially became a pilot school.
