Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus Employed as Visiting Professor

On August 14, the Guangzhou Tour of the Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, as well as the International Forum of Tiny Loans and Social Enterprise was successfully held in Hall of Liang Qiu Ju of SYSU. SYSU President, Academician Xu Ningsheng delivered a speech and issued Prof. Yunus the appointment certificate of “SYSU Visiting Professor”.

Mr Yunus, the winner of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, has established the Grameen Bank, which has lifted billions of Bengalese out of poverty. This model has already been popularized all around the world, also making great achievements. The Nobel Prize committee once commented, “Lasting peace cannot be achieved unless large population groups find ways in which to break out of poverty. Micro-credit is one such means.”


On the forum, Mr Yunus, Chen Zhiwu, Lifetime Professor of Yale University, Huang Yasheng, Professor of MIT, Ding Xueliang, Professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Senior Research Scholar of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Chen Jianmin, Sociology Professor of Chinese  University of Hong Kong, Shao Zhibao, President of Guang Dong Branch of Postal Savings Bank of China, and Latifee, Executive Chairman of Bengal Grameen Trust were invited to make wonderful speeches.

After the keynote speeches, hosted by Mr.Yadong Luo, the International Dean of SYSBS and Lifetime Professor of University of Miami, a round-table conference took place, in which the honored guests carried out a heated discussion in terms of the model of micro-credit and social enterprise, its practice and prospect in China, the micro-credit practice of Post Savings Bank, the construction of financial centers in urban China, Guangdong financial reform and the future of Chinese economy.
