The 8th Annual Conference of China Marketing Science and PHD Forum Held

The Eighth Annual Conference of China Marketing Science and PHD Forum were successfully held by SYSBS on Aug. 19-22, 2011 in SYSU. This forum was organized by SYSBS and School of Business of Lingnan University, sponsored by Faculty of Business Administration of University of Macau,School of Psychology of SYSU and School of Marketing & International Business of Nanyang Technological University.

 This forum constituted a pivotal and high-level international event in Chinese marketing academic history. More than 330 Chinese papers and 70 English papers were received. The number of dissertations of PHD forum competition reached more than 70. More than 400 scholars from the USA., Canada, Australia, Denmark, Japan, Egypt, Pakistan, Singapore, Korea, Hongkong, Macau, Taiwan and professionals from Chinese universities ( mostly 985) and institutions such as Chinese Academy of Sciences all attended this forum. The quantity and quality of dissertations and the number of representatives this year hit a record high. 11 world-famous scholars in the field of marketing including Durairaj Maheswaran(Paganelli-Bull Professor of Marketing and International Business, Stern School of Business, New York University),Shaoming Zou(Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. Professor of Marketing and International Business, University of Missouri),Chiu Chi-Yue(Nanyang Technology University & UIUC),Robert Wyer(The Chinese University of Hong Kong & UIUC),Andre Bonfrer(Australian National University),Robert Fisher(University of Alberta)and Keep ichiro (Hitotsubashi University) were invited to give keynote speech. The number of lecturers this year also hit a record high.

Leaders and guests attending the opening ceremony are::Director of Management Department II of National Natural Science Foundation, Professor Feng Zhiyan, Executive Dean of SYSBS, Professor Li Zhongfei, Vice President of Lingnan University, Professor Chen Zengsheng, Chairman of the Council of JMS and Professor of Tsinghua University, Zhaoping, Chief Editor of JMS and Professor of Peking University Fu Guoqun, Deputy Director and Deputy Chief Editor of Management World, Professor Jiang Dongsheng, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration of University of Macau, Professor Su Yuzhou. The Dean of Marketing Department, Professor Wang Haizhong presided over the opening ceremony. The Executive Dean Li Zhongfei delivered a speech during the opening ceremony and welcomed the scholars both at home and abroad to SYSBS. Director of Management Department II of National Natural Science Foundation, Professor Feng Zhiyan gave a speech and fully recognized the rapid development and progress of marketing disciplines in academic research, project application, dissertation publishment. She also offered suggestions and expectations such as producing more research achievements of high quality and providing intellectual support for major industry development. Tenured professor of University of Alberta,Robert Fisher gave a speech on behalf of the international scholars during opening ceremony. From the perspective of a foreign professor, he confirmed Chinese market's attractiveness, estimated China's future influence on international academic field and also expressed his best wishes to this conference. Vice President of Lingnan University and Chair Professor of marketing Chen Zengsheng made a speech as co-organizer. The closing ceremony was held on Aug 21, 2011, 17:00-17:30. Executive President, Professor Wang Haizhong made a brief summary about this conference. 

Annual Conference of China Marketing Science, which was first sponsored by Journal of Marketing Science, has been successfully held for eight times since November 2004. It has been reorganized as an academic conference which can represent and play a leading role in marketing discipline development in China mainland, through which world could know the research progress in marketing science in China. At the same time, the PHD Forum,sponsored by JMS, has constituted an important platform for the PHDs of marketing disciplines to present academic result, exchange ideas. It also played an important role in discovering new talents in academic field of marketing.        

This annual conference increased the reputation and influence of our marketing disciplines, SYSBS and SYSU both at home and aroad.
