Cross-Straits Four Universities’ Symposium of Tourism Management Successfully Held at SYSBS
Co-hosted by Department of Hospitality and Service Management, SYSBS, Department of Tourism Management, Jinan University (JNU) Management School, Department of Leisure Studies and Tourism Management, National Chi Nan University (NCNU) and Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Xiamen University (XMU) School of Management, a two-day cross-Straits four universities’ symposium was successfully held at JNU Management School and SYSBS respectively. Teachers and Students of SYSBS, NCNU, JNU and XMU gathered together, exchanged their ideas of the development of cross-Straits leisure and tourism and discussed academic frontier issues of the research of leisure and tourism.
On the morning of Dec. 26th, 2011, the seminar was presided over by Prof. Liu Jingyan, Director of Department of Hospitality and Service Management, SYSBS. Prof. Li Zhongfei, SYSBS Executive Dean, was presented and delivered an exuberant opening address.

Prof. Lin Shiyan of NCNU Department of Leisure Studies and Tourism Management, Prof. Lin Derong of XMU School of Management Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Prof. Guo Chunfan of JNU Management School Department of Tourism Management, Prof. Xie Lishan and Assistant Prof. Wu Chenguang of SYSBS Department of Hospitality and Service Management delivered wonderful speeches. On Dec. 25th, SYSBS Associate Prof. Luo Hao made a brilliant speech about the project supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China in his charge, which aroused great interest among the participants. There were also other attendees, including Prof. Yang Mingqing and Prof. Zheng Jianxiong of NCNU, Prof. Liang Mingzhu of JNU, Associate Prof. Fu Hui, Associate Director of SYSBS Department of Hospitality and Service Management, Associate Prof. Luo Hao, Assistant Prof. Zhao Xinyuan, teachers and students of SYSBS, School of Tourism and Management, JNU Management School, South China Normal University and Guangdong University of Business Studies.
The Symposium
Prof. Lin Shiyan analyzed the relation between the certification of tourist accommodation industry and customer response using the Game Theory, and put forward innovational views on bionics and bionomics combining to conduct the research on human resources development. Prof. Lin Derong made acute summary remarks on the present management pattern of travel agencies in China, pointing out a new way to improve in the future. Prof. Xie Lishan shared the project supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China in her charge, exchanged her overall tentative ideas of knowledge of customer demand for front line workers and systematically shed light on how to spot, analyze and solve problems. Associate Prof. Guo Chunfan illustrated, from the perspective of economics, the problems of formulating contracts stimulated by the development of tourism resources due to the transfer of scenic spots franchise, providing new ways to study these issues. Ms. Wu Chenguang showed her research on predictions about tourism demand in Hong Kong in her newly published paper in Annals of Tourism, using time-varying parameter model, and brought valuable reflection on and an example of interdisciplinary research on applied economics theory and model.
All the participants expressed their ideas freely on the symposium. They shared their reflection on the research, discussed research approaches, shed some light on the problems, and exchanged information, pushing the symposium to the climax. Presents were exchanged between Department of Hospitality and Service Management, SYSBS and Department of Leisure Studies and Tourism Management, NCNU. This symposium had milestone significance of cross-Straits future academic exchanges and extensive cooperation in the field of tourism management.
