2014 “Influence ? China” Spring Summit Successfully Held

Co-hosted by Sun Yat-sen Business School, China South Publishing & Media Group Co., Ltd, and Time Weekly, the 2014 “Influence • China” Spring Summit and Economic Forum was successfully held at the International Conference Hall of the SYSBS Sin Sze Building on April 20. The highlighted speakers in attendance were Dr. Thomas J. Sargent, the joint winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2011, Prof. Shuguang Zhang, Researcher at the Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Science, and Associate Director of Unirule Institute of Economics, and Prof. Xingyuan Feng, Researcher at the Institute of Rural Development, Chinese Academy of Social Science, and also Associate Director of Unirule Institute of Economics. More than 500 college students, faculty members, research scholars, and business representatives participated in the Forum.

At the Forum, Prof. Feng stated his view on “China’s macro trends and the path for private capital”. He also pointed out that market dominance is the only way out for China’s urbanization since the government fails to carry out the long-awaited plan. On the other hand, Prof. Zhang delivered his opinion on the topic of China’s reform and economic development from the angle of iFinance (Internet Finance) with resourceful exemplifications in history.

At the noted speech session, Dr. Sargent demonstrated his insightful points of view in accordance with the comparison of economic evolution and reform between China and the United States, including the Federalism, banking system, social insurance, corruption and pollution, as well as global reserve currency. He also cited the sentence “He who does not think of the future is certain to have immediate worries” from Confucianism to conclude his theory of “rational expectations”.
