Last updated:2011-06-30

In the afternoon of June 17th, “Face to Face with Management Gurus” was successfully held in the conference hall of Administration Building in East Campus. The hall, which can accommodate 200 people, was full to capacity.

The topic of this activity was “To View Business Changes from an International Perspective, to Study the Science of Management from a Forward-thinking Perspective”. It constituted a grand feast of international communication. Four international heavyweight gurus including Doctor Ming-Jer Chen, the vice chairman of International Management Institute (IMI), Doctor Marshall W. Meyer, the Tsai Wan-Tsai Professor of Management and Lecture Professor of Sociology in Wharton School, Doctor Yadong Luo, the International Dean of SYSBS and Doctor Daniel M. Shapiro, the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration of Simon Fraser University were all invited to this event.

On the spot

This activity took the form of Q&A. Students raised questions over international talent competition under the background of globalization, the difference in management art between Japan and America due to culture difference, career plan for students in business schools and so on. Gurus offered incisive answers to all the questions. At the same time, they encouraged students to view the situation with a vision of globalization under current economic environment, to develop their leadership, to be confident in their own choice and to think in an innovative manner.

Students were giving calligraphies to gurus as presents.

At last, students gave four calligraphies to gurus as presents to express their gratitude for that they have come all the way to share academic theories and life experience with students in SYSU. The works, which expressed our students’ respect, gratitude and good wishes for gurus, were, respectively, “ Students everywhere ”, “ Containing thousands of little rivers, the sea is great”, “ Heart free, mind joyful ”, “ Simple life shows one’s ambition and still water runs deep”.

This is the first time that SYSBS has invited international heavyweight scholars to communicate directly with students in the form of Q&A. It is also a milestone marking that our school is heading towards internationalization. At the same time, this activity has broadened our students’ horizon, stimulated their theoretical learning and personal reflection, from which they have benefited a lot.
