Donation Ceremony of Ho’s Education Foundation of Our School Ends Successfully

On the morning of January 16, 2016, the weather's beautiful after continuous raining. The Donation Ceremony of Ho’s Education Foundation was successfully held in Haishi Hall, South Campus. Ma Jun - vice president of Sun Yat-sen University, Huang Daren - former president, Li Hanrong - secretary general of Alumni Association, Li Xinchun - former dean, Yu Hua - former secretary of the CPC Party Committee, Li Zhongfei - former executive dean, Qi Xiaoping - secretary of the CPC Party Committee, Liu Yunguo - associate dean, Dai Honghui - deputy secretary of the CPC Party Committee of Business School, He Qinglan - chairman of Ho's Education Foundation, other committee members and representatives of the foundation, as well as the award-winning faculties and staffs of Ho's Outstanding Teaching, Research and Service Contributions during 2014 school year, were invited to attend the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Qi Xiaoping - secretary of the CPC Party Committee of Business School.
The Scene of Ceremony
The Ho's Education Foundation was founded in 1985. In the early days of reform and opening up, the economies of all parts of the country flourished, and there was an urgent need for all kinds of economic management talents. In order to actively support the economic construction of the motherland, Hong Kong's famous industrialist Dr. Ho Sin-Hang, was concerned what the country needed and decided to donate HK$20 million to establish Ho's Education Foundation, invited Mr. He Mingsi - then deputy secretary general of the Xinhua News Agency of Hong Kong, to serve as the first chairman of the foundation. Responsible by Mr. Ho Ming Sze, the foundation aims to shape all kinds of management talents who have both ability and moral integrity for the construction of Four Modernizations of the country, and support the development of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University.
Over the past 30 years, Ho's Education Foundation has been paying close attention to and giving its full support to the construction and development of the Business School. At the beginning of the foundation's establishment, not only did it spend huge sums of money to help the School to carry out infrastructure construction, purchase teaching equipment, books and materials, but also funded the construction of faculty dormitories, which greatly improved the teaching conditions and the living conditions of the faculty staffs. At the same time, in order to promote the academic development of the School, it has funded and sent teachers and students to study and exchange overseas. In recent years, in order to help students with financial difficulties in their families to successfully complete their studies, support undergraduates to exchange and study overseas,, the "Ho's Grants" and "Ho's Outstanding Undergraduates Overseas Study Grants" were established, which have benefited more than 1,000 students. In order to encourage faculties and staffs to work hard, the "Ho's Teaching Award", "Ho's Scientific Research Award" and "Ho's Teaching Service Award" were established to reward the outstanding faculties and staffs, and 255 person-time won the awards in 2007. In addition, special funds were allocated to purchase foreign language journals.
At the 2013 Ho's Annual Meeting, Chairman Ho Hing Lan hoped to unburden herself from work due to her age. After exchanging opinions and reaching consensus with Mr. Ho Ming Sze, she hoped that after the Ho's Education Foundation (Hong Kong) closed, the remaining assets would be transferred to a newly established foundation, which would continue to support the development of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University. After more than two years of exploration, chairman Ho and Mr. Ho Ming Sze finally decided to donate the remaining assets (about 12 million Hong Kong dollars) of the Ho's Foundation directly to the Educational Development Foundation of Sun Yat-sen University and to close the Ho's Education Foundation (Hong Kong), indicating that the only beneficiary of the donation's the Business School for the development of the school. Therefore, the school will arrange for the remaining assets of the Ho's Foundation to be donated to the Education Development Foundation of Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou) based on the opinions of chairman Ho Hing Lan and Mr. Ho Ming Sze.

At the ceremony, vice president Ma Jun, on behalf of Sun Yat-sen University, thanked Chairman Ho Hing Lan of the Hong Kong Ho's Education Foundation and her colleagues for their generous support to the education cause of Business School. Chairman Ho Hing Lan said that the only wish of the Ho family is to make sure that the beneficiary of the new foundation will be the same as the one of the Ho's Education Foundation. And she believed that under the care of the school leaders, the school will make good use of this money to lead the school to lay a solid foundation and reach a higher level. Professor Liu Jingyan of Business School as faculties’ representative and alumni Xiao Guoxun graduated in 2009 as funded students’ representative expressed their gratitude for the support of Ho's Education Foundation respectively. Li Zhongfei - former executive dean of the school, said that the school would make good use of the donation to continue the Ho's awards to commemorate the support of Mr. Ho and Ho's family to the school. Ma Jun - vice president and Li Zhongfei - former executive dean respectively presented the letter of acknowledgement and silk banner to Ho's Education Foundation. In the end, a simple and grand award ceremony for the Outstanding Teaching, Scientific Research and Service Contribution Awards of the 2014 School Year was held.

Over the past three decades, for the great support of Ho's Education Foundation to Business School, all the way, from the teaching infrastructure construction, to the international exchange of faculties of Business School, then the cultivation of students. Everyone of Business School will never forget. The school will reward the continuous support of Ho's Education Foundation with its outstanding achievements, and joint hands with everyone to witness the new development and progress.
